This week we took Otto on a trip to Chiang Rai and then on to the Golden Triangle.
We started with a 3 hour drive to Tunny House. The owner Ploy has a small hotel at the Chiang Rai Ratchabat University. I stayed there on a motorcycle trip a few weeks ago.
Ploy is very pet friendly and Otto really enjoyed his time there.
Monday night Ploy and Pounds pet sat Otto for us while we went to dinner with friends of Jason.
Bob is a retired Army Colonel and along with his wife Rung and the nephew they are raising, built a big place outside of Chiang Rai.
It was Rung's birthday but Bob doesn't appreciate Thai food so we were at Hungry Wolf Steakhouse & Ales. It was great.
That's tomato soup on the left and a frozen chocolate filled ice cream in the middle.
The next day the coffee shop next door served pretty nice Pad Kapow. After a fortifying lunch we headed out for a day of touring.
We headed north toward Mae Sai. We made a quick stop at Ing Chan Farm, Kurt's recommendation.
We were a bit too full from the Pad Kapow to eat again so we headed on to the Myranmar border where Barbara and Jason did some shopping while Otto and Ed relaxed in the car.
Then it was a nice drive over to where the Mekong river comes down from China between Laos and Myranmar and becomes the border with Thailand and Laos. It was a much nicer day than when I was there a couple of weeks ago.

There were a lot more busses bringing tourist for the boats.

Those two barges on the river had full houses on the back. They were probably Chinese moving their goods to the coast.
As we were sitting by the river Jason pointed out an elk fern starting on a limb above us. It looks like a little green volcano.

Finally we headed back to have a rest and then a delicious dinner by the lake complete with lots of deep fried crickets. Alloy dee!

Wednesday morning we packed and went to the coffee shop. They had an English and Thai menu with pictures.
There was a full page for western food. For some reason on the page with Dim Sum on the bottom was what looked like a western breakfast but it was all in Thai. Jason read the Thai script and yes it was but unfortunately the waitress said "no have".
We started looking through the menu for an alternative when she came back and said they had it afterall. Typically Thailand 😁.
Either she didn't understand Jason or didn't know her boss restocked. Anyway it was great end to another great trip.

Thank you Ploy for the picures of Tunny Home and the wonderful lakeside dinner.
